Both the EQE SUV and the RZ have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Mercedes EQE SUV weighs 681 to 1491 pounds more than the Lexus RZ. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

There are over 57 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are Lexus dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EQE SUV’s warranty.

The EQE SUV AMG’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The RZ doesn’t offer launch control.

For better stopping power the EQE SUV’s brake rotors are larger than those on the RZ:

The EQE SUV AMG offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The RZ doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The EQE SUV stops shorter than the RZ:

For better traction, the EQE SUV’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the RZ (275/40R21 vs. 235/60R18).

The EQE SUV’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the RZ’s standard 60 series front tires. The AMG EQE 53 SUV’s optional tires have a lower 35 series profile than the RZ’s optional 50 series front and 45 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the EQE SUV has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the RZ. The AMG EQE 53 SUV’s optional 22-inch wheels are larger than the 20-inch wheels optional on the RZ.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the EQE SUV can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The RZ doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The EQE SUV offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The RZ’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The EQE SUV has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The EQE SUV’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The RZ doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The EQE SUV’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The RZ doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

The design of the Mercedes EQE SUV amounts to more than styling. The EQE SUV has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .26 Cd. That is lower than the RZ (.29) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the EQE SUV get better fuel mileage.

The EQE SUV has 3.1 inches more front headroom, 2 inches more front shoulder room, .7 inches more rear headroom, 3.1 inches more rear legroom and 2.7 inches more rear shoulder room than the RZ.

The EQE SUV offers up to a 4000 lbs. towing capacity. The RZ has no towing capacity.

Optional Trailer Stability Assist on the EQE SUV uses the Electronic Stability Program sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The RZ doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

An ASSYST PLUS is standard on the EQE SUV to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals for tire rotation and brake pad replacement based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. Lexus doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the RZ.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the RZ, the EQE SUV has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The power windows standard on both the EQE SUV and the RZ have locks to prevent small children from operating them. When the lock on the EQE SUV is engaged the driver can still operate all of the windows, for instance to close one opened by a child. The RZ prevents the driver from operating the other windows just as it does the other passengers.

If the windows are left open on the EQE SUV the driver can close them all at the outside door handle or from a distance using the remote (remote must be aimed at door sensor). On a hot day the driver can lower the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the RZ can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the EQE SUV to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The RZ doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EQE SUV has a standard rear wiper. The RZ doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the EQE SUV offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The RZ doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The EQE SUV offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the RZ.

The Mercedes EQE SUV outsold the Lexus RZ by almost two to one during 2023.
